Which shape tree of a deck a shape lives in — the key every shape edit, selection and hit names its tree by.

The notes are named by their slide, not by their notes slide: a slide whose notes have not been written yet has no notes slide, and its notes still have a place — the empty notes a click lands in, which that click creates. Both views of the notes — the printed notes page and the notes pane's text — show the one tree, so a caret placed in either is the caret in both.
