The direction text flows (w:textDirection@val, ST_TextDirection; and a:bodyPr@vert / a:tcPr@vert, ST_TextVerticalType).

The three-letter transitional spellings (lr, tb, rl, and their V twins) are the deprecated aliases of these; the importer folds them in. docx states it per paragraph, pptx per body or cell — where its two WordArt arms have no docx counterpart.
